Why You Should Check for Recalls

When you buy a new vehicle, one of the last things that’s on your mind is recalls. Automakers do their absolute best to make sure that each vehicle is up to the best safety standards but sometimes, a recall is necessary. To ensure your safety and the performance of your vehicle, it’s important to keep your eyes open for any recalls that may have been issued for your make and model and address them.

Who determines if a recall is issued?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tracks failures in vehicles and investigates accidents. It determines if a vehicles equipment does not comply with safety standards or if there’s a safety related defect and issues a recall.

How do you find out about recalls?

Sometimes, a dealership will contact you. Other times, the recall will make news or you’ll get a letter. Oftentimes, you’ll need to check to see if a safety recall is affecting your vehicle. You can do so using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from the plate at the base of your windshield. Let the staff at Ben Mynatt Nissan know if you have trouble finding your VIN. Enter the VIN number at https://www.nissanusa.com/recalls-vin/.
